Helen George has spoken candidly about suffering from cholestasis and how it made her most recent pregnancy “so uncomfortable and painful”.The condition is a liver problem that can cause the skin on the stomach to become increasingly itchy. As the NHS website explains, the painful condition is thought to be caused by raised levels of certain chemicals in the blood, such as hormones, and is common for women during pregnancy, reportedly affecting one in 140 women who are expecting.
