‘Sweeney Todd’ is opening on Broadway. Get tickets for under $70

“Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” is back on the Great White Way for the first time since 2005.This time around, the story of a murderous barber will call the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre home when previews begin on Sunday, Feb. 26.The cast also features a murderer’s row of theater heavyweights including Josh Groban, Annaleigh Ashford, Jordan Fisher, Ruthie Ann Miles and “Stranger Things'” star Gaten Matarazzo. Not sold? For the first time since 1980, Sondheim’s Tony Award-winning score will be performed as it was in the original production.Plus, “Hamilton” director Thomas Kail is helming this iteration of the classic. And while ticket prices are rather high for the first few weeks after the crowd-pleasing musical opens, we’re happy to report that they’re a bit cheaper if you buy seats to see victims turned into meat pies far in advance. In fact, we found some tickets going for as low as $66 before fees on Vivid Seats for a matinee in May.All prices were found at the time of publication and are subject to fluctuation.Once ‘Sweeney Todd’ leaves Fleet Street and lands on 46th Street in Midtown Manhattan, the show will adopt a fairly typical schedule.Audiences can catch “Sweeney Todd” five nights a week from Tuesday through Saturday at 8 p.m.

Black Country, New Road share eight unreleased songs in concert film Live at Bush Hall

Days before the release of Black Country, New Road’s towering sophomore LP, Ants From Up There (42nd on our 50 best albums of 2022 list), lead singer Isaac Wood left the band abruptly, citing the onset of debilitating depression and anxiety that made it “difficult to play guitar and sing at the same time.” Instead of calling it quits — and without even taking much time to process the loss — the remaining six members of the group wrote an entirely new set of songs to perform on their ensuing world tour. Unreleased until now, eight of these tracks have been immortalized in a new concert film: Live at Bush Hall.

‘The Quiet Girl’ Writer-Director Colm Bairéad “Fell Head Over Heels In Love” With Novel That Formed His Intimate Irish Drama – Contenders Film: The Nominees

Colm Bairéad’s appearance at Deadline’s Contenders: The Nominees event marks a year since his film The Quiet Girl first debuted at the Berlin Film Festival. A dual release in the UK and Ireland followed in May, and a slow international rollout has kept the director busy ever since. Indeed, as the film’s Oscar campaign enters the final stretch, The Quiet Girl is only now going wide across America: not bad going for a film with no stars that’s shot almost entirely in Irish, a language spoken by fewer than 2 million people worldwide.

Elvis Costello recalls Burt Bacharach’s rigorous approach in the studio

Elvis Costello has shared what the late Burt Bacharach was like to work with in the studio. The pair met in 1989 while working at the same recording studio, and continued working together for almost three decades.Costello was discussing working on their 1998 joint album ‘Painted From Memory’ in an interview with The Times and said that Bacharach was “very considerate, but he won’t let anything get in the way of the music, and all the geniality and elegance on the surface of the songs hides the power at the heart of them”.He continued: “Once he gets the shape of a melody he won’t negotiate. ‘Could I get a triplet, so I can use it against this three-syllable word?’ – ‘No, you can’t.’ After a while, the sheer rigour of his approach makes you fall into line.”Such “chance encounters” like he and Bacharach had, Costello said, don’t happen today because most artists work and collaborate remotely.
