Brighton and Hove Albion have suffered a major injury blow as striker Evan Ferguson is ruled out of the Republic of Ireland's upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers.
Ferguson caught the headlines at the weekend when the 18-year-old bagged an impressive hat-trick in the Seagulls' 3-1 victory over Newcastle. So far this season, the Irish centre-forward has scored four goals in as many matches after bagging an opening-day strike against Luton Town.
Manchester United, who are currently struggling with an injury crisis of their own, are Brighton's first opponents back after the international break and Ferguson is in a race to be fit in time for the trip to Old Trafford. In a statement on the FA of Ireland's website, the national team wrote: "Ferguson reported for international duty on Sunday but after assessment from the Ireland medical team, Ferguson has been ruled out of both fixtures."
During the aforementioned victory on the South Coast, Ferguson hobbled off the pitch with what appeared to be a knee injury. After the game at the Amex, De Zerbi did not seem concerned about any injury to his striker.

"He understood very well the right positions in the first half and also Joao Pedro played very well. It was fantastic, the attitude of the players."
United and Brighton face each other on Saturday, September 16 in a 3pm kick off.
