Brianna Ghey: Family of Girl X receive 'death threats', while fears raised for Boy Y if he 'becomes notorious'

The family of one of Brianna Ghey's killers has received 'death threats', it has emerged - and there are concerns the second murderer could become 'notorious'. The disclosures were made during a hearing at Manchester Crown Court, the day after Girl X, from Culcheth, and Boy Y, from Leigh, were found guilty of murdering the 16-year-old in a park near Warrington.
Brianna, a transgender girl, was stabbed 28 times during a frenzied attack in Culcheth Linear Park on February 11. The pair will be sentenced on February 2 next year.
During a hearing on Thursday, Mrs Justice Yip ruled that she was in favour of lifting reporting restrictions, prohibiting the identification of the killers, which were imposed after the pair first appeared in court.
But she said the court order would only be lifted on the day of sentencing, noting there 'may be a need for some work to be done' to allow the defendants and their families time to 'prepare'.

In advance of announcing her decision, the judge said she'd been sent correspondence on behalf of both defendants raising concerns if they were to be named. "In relation to both X and Y, the professionals working with them urge me not to lift the reporting restrictions," Mrs Justice Yip said.
"The letter from Cheshire Youth Justice Services concerning X suggests that the impact of lifting restrictions and the reporting that will ensue will have ramifications for many years.
