A man and woman have been arrested in the hunt for a man wanted on suspicion of the murder of Thomas Campbell in Tameside, police have revealed.
The man, who is 59, and the woman, 53, have both been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, Greater Manchester Police said on Tuesday. No further updates have been revealed.
The force said John Belfield, 28, was on its 'critical wanted list'. Mr Campbell, 38, who was described by his family as a devoted dad who would 'go out of his way to help his family and friends without a second thought' was found dead at his home on Riverside, Mossley, Tameside, by a neighbour on July 3. Three people have been charged with conspiracy to murder in connection with his death.
Speaking at a press conference earlier this month, police revealed Mr Campbell suffered a 'quite horrific' level of injury as they described Belfield, from Openshaw, as 'a dangerous individual' who shouldn't be approached. The public have been urged to dial 999 if they see him.
The senior investigating officer on the case said in an update they believe Belfield was still in the UK and someone could be helping him avoid capture. Detective Inspector Mark Davis said: "We continue to work relentlessly, and our work is still very much ongoing to trace Belfield and his associates.
"We have arrested a 59 year-old male and a 53 year-old female on suspicion of assisting an offender and I would like to remind people that this is a criminal offence and anyone convicted of this crime faces up to 10 years imprisonment.
"Again, we would like to reiterate that John Belfield is thought to be a dangerous individual and members of the public should call 999 if they see him.
"Through new lines of enquiry, we strongly believe

Patrick Frater Asia Bureau Chief Film studios in Asia-Pacific are expanding the scale of their operations and want location incentives to keep pace. “Incentives are fundamental, they are an expectation [of production managers] and having one is no longer a USP,” said Rashid Karim, CEO of Iskandar Malaysia Studios. He was speaking at the Content Asia summit conference in Bangkok on Thursday. The IMS facility opened ten years ago around the same time as Malaysia introduced a location production incentive scheme. These days, the scheme offers a generous 35% uncapped rebate. But since the scheme launched, rival locations in the Asian region including Thailand, India and Mongolia have launched or are in the process of launching rebate schemes.
