Boy, 16, dies and two others injured after car crashes into lamp post as 18-year-old driver is arrested

A 16-year-old boy has died and two others were injured after a car hit a lamp post near a Metrolink line on Saturday night, police have revealed.
Police said the teenager, who hasn't been named, was a passenger in the white Vauxhall Corsa. He was pronounced dead a short time after the smash having suffered fatal injuries, Greater Manchester Police said. The driver of the car, a boy aged 18, was arrested at the scene.
He, too, was injured and remained in custody today - Sunday - after treatment, GMP added in a statement as an investigation got underway. The force hasn't said what he was arrested on suspicion of.
Emergency services were scrambled to Droylsden Road in Audenshaw, Tameside, at around 8pm on Saturday night. A Metrolink line runs along the road and it's understood the crash happened at the road's junction with North Road. The car is believed to have hit a lamp post which also carries Metrolink cables across Droylsden Road.
Police said two others 'suffered minor and serious injuries'. Their ages - and the extent of their injuries - haven't been confirmed by the force. In a statement, GMP said: "Officers are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage after a 16-year-old male sadly lost his life.
"Two others suffered minor and serious injuries, whilst the 18-year-old driver of the vehicle was arrested at the scene and remains in custody for questioning after treatment to his injuries.
"Greater Manchester Police were called at around 8pm on Saturday 15 October 2022 to a serious collision on Droylsden Road, Tameside as it approached North Road.
