‘Exorcist’ Sequel Could Be Set For Creative Changes As Box Office Disappoints & Director Suggests He May Not Direct Entire Trilogy

Alright, “Exorcist: Believer,” Universal and Blumhouse Pictures’ legacy sequel of 1973’s “The Exorcist,” directed by David Gordon Green hit theaters last weekend and the results were, well, kinda mid. Yes, it’s a legacy sequel, so much like the newest “Halloween” trilogy (also made by Green, Universal and Blumhouse), it disregards all the other sequels and essentially only takes place after the original film).

according to IMDB’s Box Office Mojo. The horror flick, which cost a paltry $10 million to produce, “manages to make you feel something beyond gross-out adrenaline,” New York Times said.Landing in second place was “PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie,” which also opened on Friday, with $6.8 million in sales. The computer-animated superhero comedy — based on Nickelodeon’s children’s TV series — stars characters voiced by Kim Kardashian and her daughter, Saint West, along with James Marsden and Kristen Bell. ‘Saw X’ Leads Previews With $2M, ‘The Creator’ $1.6M – Box Office

Hopefully three wide releases can wake up what’s been a relatively sleep time at the box office, ratcheted down by the SAG-AFTRA strike. With New Regency/20th Century Studios/Disney’s original Gareth Edwards sci-fi movie The Creator, Paramount and Spin Master’s PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie, and Lionsgate’s Saw X, the top three movies look to make around $45M. All three of them are vying for No. 1 with a high teens take, however, it’s likely a two-way race between PAW Patrol 2 and The Creator since both pics have had the loudest marketing campaigns, and Lionsgate usually executes their smaller budgeted movies on the cheap.

However, some projections go as high as $20 million to $25 million, overtaking the “PAW Patrol” pups.
