Boris Johnson attacks Rishi Sunak as he uses final PMQs to back Liz Truss on tax cuts

Boris Johnson has bowed out of the Commons by aiming a dig at former chancellor Rishi Sunak who he believes betrayed him.
The Prime Minister signed off with a “hasta la vista, baby” catchphrase from Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Terminator character as he called on his successor to ignore the Treasury and cut taxes.
The comment was seen as backhanded support for Liz Truzz, the Foreign Secretary who has promised cuts in corporation tax.
Leadership rival Sunak has been cautious on immediate tax cuts.

Rounding off his final PMQs, Boris said: “I want to use the last few seconds to give some words of advice to my successor, whoever he or she may be.
“Number one: Stay close to the Americans, stick up for the Ukrainians, stick up for freedom and democracy everywhere. Cut taxes and deregulate wherever you can to make this the greatest place to live and invest, which it is.
“I love the Treasury but remember that if we’d always listened to the Treasury we wouldn’t have built the M25 or the Channel Tunnel.”
As he said his goodbyes from a final, rowdy Commons session, Johnson said: “Mission largely accomplished - for now... Hasta la vista baby.”
Johnson received a standing ovation from the Conservative benches although his predecessor Theresa May stood up while not joining in with the clapping.
Commons Speaker Lindsay Hoyle told the PM: “I would like to wish him and his family all the best for the future.
He said: “Can I say we have been through many dark times within this House and none more so than through the pandemic, and always will be remembered for what this House did and the way you’ve conducted those duties during those dark times.”
