Brian Steinberg Senior TV Editor Food Network likes Bobby Flay’s new recipe. The celebrity chef’s new “Bobby’s Triple Threat,” which just debuted on September 27, has been picked up by Food Network for a second season slated to air in 2023. With just two weeks under its belt, the series is beating ratings benchmarks set in the prior six-week and year-earlier periods, and stands as the Discovery Warner Bros.-backed outlet’s highest-rated new launch. In each one-hour episode, one chef is challenged to vie with a trio of Flay’s handpicked proxies — Tiffany Derry, Michael Voltaggio andBrooke Williamson— for a chance to take home $25,000. In the first two rounds, Flay picks the main ingredients that the chefs must emphasize, while the single chef selects which of Flay’s trio to compete against. The last round features the competitor picking the ingredients to incorporate, while going against the last remaining expert in Flay’s group. All the while, one discerning guest judge blind taste tests the dishes at the end of every round. If the competitor can out-cook Flay’s group and earn more points with their cumulative score, they earn a cash prize
“Our viewers embraced ‘Bobby’s Triple Threat right away – from episode one, we knew they loved seeing Bobby in a new master-of-ceremonies role showcasing chefs that he is passionate about,” said Jane Latman, president of home and food content and streaming for Warner Bros. Discovery, in a prepared statement. “The speakeasy vibe and elite cooking rounds make this show a unique experience that our audience wants more of — and we are excited to pick up the series for another season.” “Bobby’s Triple Threat” is produced by Rock Shrimp Productions for Food Network and discovery+.

Now it's hard to imagine Giada De Laurentiis as anything but a Food Network star. But anyone who’s lived a little knows that no matter what course your life is on, everything can change in an instant. A party invitation you accept, a phone call you decline—even whether you return a stranger’s smile or put on your headphones instead—an action (or inaction) that unfolds in mere seconds can upend your trajectory.
EJ Panaligan editor Hulu has released the official trailer for “Welcome to Chippendales,” starring Kumail Nanjiani as Somen “Steve” Banjeree, an Indian immigrant who became the unlikely founder of the famous male-stripping empire, and quickly learns how unglamorous the live entertainment world can be. Also starring in the series alongside Nanjiani are Murray Bartlett, Annaleigh Ashford, Dan Stevens, Juliette Lewis with Nicola Peltz appearing in a guest starring role. The show comes from creator Robert Siegel, whose previous credits include “The Founder” and “The Wrestler.” Marvel Studios’ “Fantastic Four” director Matt Shakman directs the series. Owen Gleiberman Chief Film Critic The “Halloween” series, which comes to an end this weekend (and if you believe that, I have a set of very rusty kitchen knives I’d like to sell you), has always been the least pretentious of horror franchises. A towering killer in a rubber mask pops out of the shadows to slash one victim after the next. Horror doesn’t get much more basic than that. But, of course, the “Halloween” series has always had a pretentious side too — the side that began with Donald Pleasance droning on about eee-vil, and the side that has extended, over the latest trilogy, to the top-heavy handwringing of Laurie Strode’s self-actualized guilt and despair. As for Michael Myers, who started out as a small-town killer, he has been turned, more and more explicitly, into A Force Larger Than Himself. And in “Halloween Ends,” that trend now culminates in a movie where Michael, in a certain way, is barely in the movie; he’s the film’s totem, its mascot, its looming emblem of evil. “Halloween Ends” doesn’t finish off the franchise by being the most scary or fun entry in the series. (It should have been both, but it’s neither.) Instead, it’s the most joylessly metaphorical and convoluted entry.

Selena Gomez has really come into her own in recent years. While she could have been just another teen pop star footnote, the ex-gf of Justin Bieber, etc., Gomez has really cultivated herself as something more meaningful, full of depth, and not afraid to speak her mind.
Brian Steinberg Senior TV Editor Fox Nation is reopening the 1977 case of three young Girl Scouts who were murdered during a camping trip outside Tulsa, OK, just months after Hulu examined it in a documentary miniseries. Fox Nation’s “Girl Scout Murders” will examine new revelations about the case that have recently surfaced due to Faith Phillips, an author who has written a book about the crime. In June of 1977, the bodies of three young girls, Lori Lee Farmer, 8; Michelle Guse, 9; and Doris Denise Milner, 10, of Tulsa, were discovered after they had been abducted from their tent during the night. Two different men have been identified as the potential killer over the years, but one was acquitted and the other was never found guilty by trial

Brian Steinberg Senior TV Editor As a top executive at Facebook and Instacart, Carolyn Everson knows a lot about the habits of tech-savvy consumers. Soon, she may be able to help Walt Disney Co. figure out how to harness them. Disney plans to expand its board of directors to 12 from 11 and nominated Everson as a new member. The move is supported by Third Point LLC, the activist investor that in August took a new stake in Disney and suggested a litany of big moves, such as spinning off ESPN or buying out Comcast’s ownership of Hulu. “We have a productive and collegial relationship with Third Point, with whom we share a deep commitment to continue building on Disney’s many successes and increasing shareholder value,” said Disney CEO Bob Chapek in a prepared statement.
Elizabeth Wagmeister Senior Correspondent Guy Fieri has recently become a thing on social media. If you haven’t perused through TikTok to see him vibing at a rock concert, you might have seen one of his mock movie posters on Instagram. In August, Fieri inserted an image of himself over Brad Pitt on a prank poster for “Burger Train” (i.e., “Bullet Train”); and in September, he photoshopped himself into a poster for “Don’t Worry Diner” (i.e., “Don’t Worry Darling”), with the tagline “Welcome to Flavortown” and a caption that’s a wink and a nod to star Harry Styles’ now-infamous quotable from the Venice press conference. Despite his love for movies, Fieri is no entertainment expert. When asked to play a game of pop culture trivia at breakfast at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills, Fieri is unaware of Elton John’s new single with Britney Spears, though he thinks it’s cool, and responds, “When do we get to talk about food?”
