Blumhouse has set Black Adam filmmaker Jaume Collet-Serra as director, and Danielle Deadwyler as star and EP on The Woman in the Yard.
The project reteams Collet-Serra and Deadwyler, who recently collaborated on the Netflix thriller pic, Carry On.
The pic, which has a plot line under wraps, is set for theatrical release on Jan. 10, 2025.
“I’ve been trying to find the right project to work on with Jaume, in our system, for over a decade. The Woman in the Yard is the perfect match, a film that’s ambitious in scope but modest in budget that combines Jaume’s vision with the incomparable Danielle Deadwyler. Together with my friend Stephanie Allain, this is a real dream team and I’m excited to collaborate with them on the film,” said Blumhouse Boss Jason Blum.
The Woman in the Yard is written by Sam Stefanak. Blum and Stephanie Allain are producers on the film. Collet-Serra, Deadwyler, Gabrielle Ebron, Scott Greenberg and James Moran are EPs. Haley Pigman and Jungyoon Kim are the executives covering the film for Blumhouse. The Woman in the Yard is a Blumhouse production for Universal.
BAFTA Nominee Deadwyler is a multidisciplinary performance artist, actor, and filmmaker. She recently completed filming on the Netflix feature adaptation of August Wilson’s The Piano Lesson opposite John David Washington and Samuel L. Jackson for Academy Award-winning producer Denzel Washington. Deadwyler also has A24’s I Saw the TV Glow premiere at Sundance, which will also play at this year’s SXSW. She is best known for her starring role in the award-winning film Till, portraying Emmett Till’s mother, Mamie Till-Mobley. Her performance garnered her the 2022 Gotham Award for Outstanding Lead Performance, the 2022 Critics Choice

Timothée Chalamet and Denis Villeneuve have said that they spoke to each other in French on the set of their new film, Dune: Part Two.The pair were speaking to the The New York Times to promote the new film, which is the second part of the adaptation of Frank Herbert’s 896-page sci-fi novel, and the writer of the interview noted that they were speaking in French each other when they arrived.
