Blink-182’s Tom DeLonge Thanks Matt Skiba for Filling In During His Absence: ‘You Are Enormously Talented’

EXCLUSIVE: Screen Media has acquired worldwide rights to Monsters of California, the upcoming sci-fi adventure film which marks the directorial debut for Blink-182’s lead singer and guitarist, Tom DeLonge, who also wrote and performed original music for the film. 

Blink-182 fans have reacted after tickets for their 2023 and 2024 world reunion tour with Tom DeLonge went on sale.On Tuesday (October 11), it was revealed that the band had reunited with their founding singer and guitarist to release new music and embark on a huge world tour.

Tom DeLonge’s note thanking him for keeping Blink-182 “thriving”, after the band returned to its original line-up, making Skiba “truly happy”.The Alkaline Trio vocalist joined the band in 2015 as a replacement for DeLonge who left “to change the world for my kids”.

Tom DeLonge has said that Blink-182‘s forthcoming album contains some of the “most progressive” music of their career so far.The co-vocalist and guitarist, who recently rejoined the pop-punk band after seven years, added on Twitter today (October 15) that the new record has some of the band’s most “elevated” songs.He wrote: “The new @blink182 album has some of the most progressive, and elevated music we‘be ever had. In honesty, I am holding my breath for you to hear these other songs.

Blink-182 have returned with their first song to feature Tom DeLonge in just months shy of a decade: a belting pop-punk anthem titled ‘Edging’.Despite its title (and the returning frontman’s penchant for tongue-in-cheek raciness) the song is surprisingly void of sex jokes, instead offering a self-deprecative take on the dissolution of a relationship. It opens with DeLonge singing the first verse, as he quips: “I ain’t that cool, a little fucked in the head / They’ll be hangin’ me quick when I’m back from the dead.”A music video for ‘Edging’, directed by Cole Bennett, is due to be released tomorrow (October 15).
