A new four-star hotel in Glasgow has opened on the site of an "iconic" Grade-A listed building that has stood on the banks of the River Clyde for more than 180 years.

A Glasgow restaurant were delighted when an absolute Scottish legend joined them at their eatery.
Iconic comedian Sir Billy Connolly stopped by Italian restaurant Mediterraneo, which is based on Ingram Street, and staff were delighted to host their special guest.
On Instagram, the restaurant posted a snap of the smiling 79-year-old as a member of staff wrote: "Serving a Glasgow Legend! Billy Connolly at #Mediterraneo."
And fans were loving seeing Sir Billy out and about. One wrote: "Amazing to see billy out and about and I’m sure you spoiled him with amazing foods."
Another wrote: "My hero on knowing how he has lived as good a life as he can and not giving in to PD (Parkinson's disease) a great inspiration to us fellow “Parkies “ !!! Keep well Billy."
While one said: "Aw gutted! I was in today wished I had seen him! Met him few times other the years he's brilliant!" Another said: "Can’t believe he is in Glasgow. Amazing. I love our Billy."
The Big Yin, who was knighted in 2017, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2013 and retired from performing five years later, but has continued to record shows and appear on TV.
In 2002, Sir Billy was presented with a Bafta special award and honoured with a lifetime achievement award by Bafta Scotland in 2012.
Earlier this year, the 79-year-old he was awarded a Bafta Fellowship and gave an emotional acceptance speech talking about Parkinson's and said that it was nice to be recognised despite not performing on stage for two years.
Bafta’s Fellowship is the body’s highest accolade, given to recognise “outstanding and exceptional contribution” in film, games or TV over a career.
