Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden has shared a new update amid her cancer battle as she declared: "The journey is not over". The 33 year old professional dancer has bravely been battling stage three breast cancer over the past year, and she's shared many emotional updates to Instagram, documenting her journey. On Wednesday, 13 December, Amy appeared on ITV's Lorraine, where she revealed that since ringing the bell that signified the end of her chemotherapy, she's had further health issues.
Amy told Lorraine Kelly honestly: "I think I was a bit deluded when I rang that chemo bell that that was going to be it. "And actually, I find it mentally tougher now, because I was seeing the doctor every other week. I had a routine." She continued: "I honestly thought, once I'd rung that bell, 'oh, I'm going to be fine,' but actually, I've broken my foot, I've had a blood clot on my lung.
"You know, you've got to recover from chemo. I had eight tough rounds of it. "Yourself and people around you - well not my friends and family - but others think 'oh you're fine now, because you've rung the bell' but no, the journey is not over." Lorraine conceded: "No, it's just a stage." Amy also spoke of her heartbreak at fracturing her foot, just weeks before she was due to perform at the Strictly Come Dancing final.
She said that she "cried so much" when she realised she would not be able to take part, as she just wants to dance again. Amy has been a professional dancer on Strictly Come Dancing since 2017. In November, Amy posted an emotional video showing her ringing a chemotherapy bell in hospital.
