Bargain Hunt viewers branded scenes on the BBC One show 'scandalous' after an item was controversially disqualified.
The hit show took two teams out to Exeter's Westpoint Arena in an episode which aired in March. Host Natasha Raskin Sharp introduced the red and blue teams, who were tasked with finding an item which matched a specific criteria.
The blue team was made up of mother and son duo Ann and James, who had to find a maritime object, while the red team consisted friends Lisa and Helen, who had to find an agricultural item. The blue team purchased a menu holder form a shipping liner for a staggering £70.
Elsewhere, the reds found a mole spade, setting them back by £18. The reds, as well as their expert Phillip Serrell, believed the spade was made for digging out moles, which would have fitted their chosen category perfectly. However, over at the auction house they were given some bad news.
At Ottery Auction in Ottery St Mary, David Sumner inspected the spade and said he believed it to be a bread peel from the 19th century - used to get crumbs out of the oven. David said he'd reached this conclusion after speaking to other experts, who said it was not a mole spade, therefore not an agricultural item. Natasha said the Bargain Hunt team had also inspected the spade and agreed with David's conclusion.
This led to Natasha telling the red team she had decided to disqualify the item.
The team were informed of the bad news once they arrived at the auction house, despite antiques expert Phillip saying he believed the decision. to be "wrong".
The spade then went up for auction, and much to the reds' devastation, it sold for £50, giving a £32 profit. Bargain Hunt's decision to disqualify the red team's item proved to be hugely
