The Great British Bake Off returned to Channel 4 on Tuesday night complete with a Star Wars skit. At the start of the episode, Paul Hollywood, Prue Leith, Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas transformed into several iconic characters for a pun-filled opening. It started with: "A long time ago in a tent far far away…" as Matt, 48, appeared as Luke Piewalker, a play on Luke Skywalker.
Noel, 49, then appeared as Princess Layer Cake, a play on Princess Leia, with Prue, 82, entering as Pruebacca, a play on Chewbacca. Finally, it was Paul, 56, who entered as Darth Baker, a play on the franchise's Darth Vader, as the skit involved several puns, such as Flan Solo instead of Han Solo. Taking to Twitter, one person said: "The way I just laughed at Flan Solo proves how much the return of lovely lovely @BritishBakeOff is needed #GBBO." Another viewer put: "Star Wars #BakeOff intro is exactly what I needed today #GBBO." While a different show watcher added: "Starting off the season with a Star Wars - Bake Off crossover was the best decision ever made #GBBO." It comes as the show announced the first contestant to leave the 2022 tent on Tuesday night.
During the opening episode, the contestants had to create mini sandwich cakes, a red velvet cake and a showstopper 3D replica of their home. However, as Janusz was crowned Star Baker for his incredible creations, it was sadly time for another baker to leave the tent as Will was sent home. Will, 45, a former charity director from London, failed to impress the judges with his "messy' and "bland" ginger and caramel squares.
