A badly neglected cat had to be put to sleep after being discovered in Glasgow city centre.
The Scottish SCPA (SSPCA) say the female white tabby was discovered in the close of a property on Argyle Street on Monday, February 20.
The animal's fur was badly matted and soaked with urine, causing discomfort. It was also suffering with respiratory issues, with vets taking the decision to put the cat down.
Scottish SPCA inspector, Elizabeth Lindsay, said: “The cat is a female tabby and white cat.
“The cat was not microchipped or wearing a caller when she was found.
“The animal was extremely matted and suffering from urine scald and respiratory issues.
“She was taken to our veterinary clinic where she was put to sleep on veterinary advice due to the extent of her issues and to prevent any further suffering.
“We appreciate that times are tough and veterinary and grooming costs can be expensive, but this cat will have suffered a great deal as a result of this neglect.
“If anyone recognises this cat, or has any information please call our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.
The SSPCA urge anyone who is concerned about an animal to contact their confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.
