An Audi driver ‘deliberately rammed’ into a BMW before the vehicle was later found burnt out some ten miles away.
Officers were called to reports of a collision involving a dark blue BMW X5 and a black Audi outside Warrington bus station on Horsemarket Street, Warrington, shortly after 2pm on Thursday (May 4).
The Audi drove away from the scene, with the vehicle later discovered burnt out at the side of a canal on Warrington Road in Leigh, near Butts Bridge. There was no-one present in the car, GMP reported at the time.

An investigation has now established that the Audi had followed the BMW from the Fearnhead area of Warrington before deliberately ramming into the vehicle. Several other vehicles were damaged as the Audi travelled towards the town centre, although no injuries were reported.
Cheshire Police say their enquiries are ongoing and they are keen to hear from any witnesses or anyone with information.
Detective Inspector Alison White, of Northern CID, said: “I would like to reassure residents that this is believed to be a targeted incident and there is no risk to the general public.
“While there were no reports of any serious injuries the consequences could have been far worse, and we are committed to doing all we can to identify the people responsible. As part of our investigation we would like to hear from anyone who saw the incident in Horsemarket Street.
“We’re also keen to hear from who believes they witnessed the two vehicles travelling from Fearnhead to Warrington town centre. The same goes for anyone with any dashcam or video footage.
“The vehicles are believed to have travelled along a number of busy roads, including Winwick Road,
