Irvine Meadow striker Graham Boyd admits he’s desperate to be let loose against Auchinleck Talbot – after netting his first league goal in three years.
The 29-year-old reckons whoever comes out on top in Saturday’s fourth round Scottish Junior Cup cracker at Beechwood Park can go all the way in the famous old competition.
And after making his mark in a 3 -0 win against Rutherglen at the weekend he’s straining at the leash to be involved.
Boyd had co-boss Colin Spence purring after a man of the match performance on his return to the starting 11.
Now he’s desperate to keep his place in the side as Meadow look to avenge the 3-1 and 5-1 defeats they’ve already suffered at the hands of Talbot this season.
He said: “Both games were tight. They were mirror images of each other but in the second game, the injuries we had at the time meant it just ran away from us.
“I was on the bench but I probably wasn’t in a position fitness-wise to come on and make a difference.
“This is probably the first time going into it feeling fit and ready so I’m looking forward it.
“The boys can’t wait for it either. It’s a chance to right some wrongs.
“The opportunity is there. Whoever wins this game is probably going to be fancied to go on and at least make the final.”
The tie was shoehorned into the fixture list after Talbot beat Craigmark 2-0 on Saturday in a long-awaited third round tie.
Co-boss Spence said: “We only found out on Thursday that it would be the fixture if Talbot won so we’re not going to have a lot of time to prepare for it.
“Talbot will be massive favourites and we’ll go there as underdogs, but hopefully we can spring a shock.”
