Wheeler: “Yeah, we’ve known them for a long time. First time we met them, they were talking about what big fans they were and so I think I went to quite a lot of shows early on. A great live band and we feel like it’s a good fit – we’re two three pieces.
They’re a good band to get out to Europe with as well. They do really well out there.”“It didn’t go to the initial plan. We started recording it in the gap between finishing [2018’s] ‘Islands’ and ‘Islands’ coming out.

Despite fears for the future of film in the new, seemingly disposable digital era, there are still many auteurs holding on out there in the modern movie landscape. But few directors are as instantly recognizable as Wes Anderson. Nothing happens by accident in a Wes Anderson movie: the camera moves are perfectly choreographed — sideways tracking shots are a specialty — and the sets don’t even begin to aim for realism. Clothes are tailored, hair and makeup is scrutinized all the way down to lipstick and nail polish, and music is key, creating a subtle, sometimes melancholy and always wholly effective emotional backdrop.

You’ve seen Women Talking, welcome to Women Swearing: Wicked Little Letters, Thea Sharrock’s fantastically funny feature puts Jessie Buckley and Olivia Colman together in the filthiest pairing since Derek met Clive in the late 1970s. Set in 1920, it’s based on a story that, per the credits, is “more true than you’d think”, which, when you get to the end of it, is quite a claim. Think what a hip, modern and actually funny Carry On spoof of Call the Midwife might look like, scripted by the Coen brothers, shot with a little visual nod to Wes Anderson, and dictated by a screenwriter with Tourette Syndrome.
his last flick, “The Wind Rises,” and it’s assumed he won’t churn out another after this. However, should this be the end of the road for him, take heart that the Japanese director’s visual majesty and uncontrollable imagination are as fully present as ever. And so is his unparalleled understanding of what makes children tick. A filmmaker rarely goes out with his head held so high.“Heron” is not as perfect as some of Miyazaki’s past movies.
