‘Arthur’ Podcast Series Heads To PBS Kids

Matt Graves suspects that there may be more unidentified victims out there who were killed by one of Europe’s most heinous murderers. His podcast titled "Le Monstre," from Tenderfoot TV and iHeartMedia, details the story of Belgium serial killer, pedophile and kidnapper Marc Dutroux, whose case horrified a country and led to widespread changes in police procedures. The 65-year-old is serving a life sentence life for the kidnapping, rape and murder of several girls and young women in the 1990s.

Ramy Youssef may not be the same person as the titular character in his Hulu series Ramy, but the Golden Globe-winning, multi-Emmy-nominated creator and star certainly relates to the New Jersey Millennial Arab-American man at the heart of his show.

President Biden will attend a big-ticket fundraiser for House Democrats Thursday evening alongside Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., in Los Angeles. Tickets for the high-profile Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee event start at $5,000, with the top-spending attendees shelling out a whopping $50,000 per head, according to a Deadline report.  Though the hosts of the event remain unknown, the fundraiser will be held in Brentwood, one of the most expensive neighborhoods in Los Angeles and home to some of Hollywood’s biggest names including Gwyneth Paltrow, Lebron James and Tom Brady. The fundraiser is part of Biden’s four-day-long western U.S.

The New York Times and Serial Productions have announced a new three-part audio mini-series titled We Were Three. Described in a press release as “an intimate look at a family in the aftermath of the pandemic,” it’s hosted by This American Life producer Nancy Updike and scored by the inimitable Sophie Allison (aka Soccer Mommy).

Arny Granat, a veteran concert promoter turned Tony-winning musical producer, has hired Stephanie Sanditz to pen a feature film script from Lynda Durrant’s book “My Last Skirt: The Story of Jennie Hodgers, Union Soldier.” Granat — whose stage credits include “In The Heights,” “The Color Purple,” “Spamalot,” “Glengarry Glen Ross” and “History Boys” — has been chasing an adaptation of the story for nearly a decade. Set in the 1800s, “My Last Skirt” tells the story of Hodgers, who went by the name Albert Cashier to enlist and serve her country. Following the war, Hodgers would live as Cashier for much of her life after observing the disparity in opportunity for women of the age. She is also believed to be the first person assigned female at birth to cast a vote for president before Women’s Suffrage.

Meghan Markle has described being called "crazy" in the latest episode of her Archetypes podcast on Spotify. The Duchess of Sussex, 41, discusses the word in the latest podcast instalment, which carried a "trigger warning," and she says that the label is used to "diminish women's credibility". Meghan can be heard saying: "Raise your hand if you've ever been called crazy or hysterical or what about nuts? Insane out of your mind, completely irrational, okay? You get the point.

Spotify has named new managing directors for its Gimlet and Parcast podcast studios the day after news that it plans to cancel a combined 11 original podcasts and eliminate about 5% of its podcast headcount.

Spotify elevated Beemsterboer (above left), a former longtime NPR exec who joined Spotify this year, to the role of Gimlet’s managing director. She takes over for Lydia Polgreen, who left Spotify this spring to rejoin the New York Times as an opinion columnist. Prior to joining as Gimlet’s head of news and knowledge in March, Beemsterboer spent more than 15 years at NPR as a producer where she led the creation and reorganization of the public media org’s first longform podcast unit, the Enterprise Storytelling Unit. At NPR, Beemsterboer worked on shows including “Embedded,” “Invisibilia” and “White Lies.”

Jennifer Lawrence stars as a solider struggling to adjust to life back home in the first trailer for Causeway, released by A24 and Apple Original Films.

Clayton Davis A24 and Apple Original Films have released the first trailer for “Causeway,” their new drama starring Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence.  Lawrence stars as Lynsey, a military engineer who returns to the United States from Afghanistan after suffering a debilitating brain injury after an IED explosion.   After premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, Lawrence, who also serves as one of the film’s producers, garnered rave reviews for her performance. The film hopes to find a pathway into a crowded lead actress field.  

Archetypes returned this week for the first time since , featuring comedian Margaret Cho and journalist to discuss some of the harmful stereotypes Asian women face.The began her first episode since the hiatus by recalling the mixing pot of cultures she grew up surrounded by in Los Angeles and how “the multitude of Asian cultures was a huge part of that,” from visiting Little Tokyo on the weekends to enjoying a Korean spa day with her mom. She added, however, that she wasn't aware until recently of the negative and prejudiced characterizations of Asian women that exist out there.

The premiere episode, released as a video podcast, featured an in-depth interview with Hailey Bieber. After the Season 2 premiere of “Call Her Daddy” on Sept. 28, the podcast hit No. 1 on the Spotify charts in English-speaking countries worldwide. As of Tuesday (Oct. 4), it’s the top Spotify podcast in the United States, Canada, U.K., Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, Norway and Denmark. In the U.S., Cooper’s show is currently ahead of “The Joe Rogan Experience,” the perennial chart-topper on the streaming service.

Rachel Maddow is launching another new podcast series with MSNBC, this time examining the history of an 80-year-old plot to undermine democracy.

Co-produced by veteran true crime producer Lori Rothschild Ansald, “The System” follows the case of Kevin Keith, a man who was convicted in 1994 on three counts of murder despite no physical evidence. Decades later, Keith, along with his brother Charles, are still trying to clear his conviction.

Daniel Johnston‘s 1983 album ‘Hi, How Are You?’ will feature conversations around mental health with musicians performing at Austin City Limits Music Festival.The series is being presented by the Hi, How Are You Project, a non-profit organisation established with the support of Johnston’s family in 2018 to create “thoughtful media, events and peer-to-peer training programs that encourage open and ongoing dialogue on mental well-being”.The podcast is hosted by students from the University of Texas in Austin, with additional commentary provided by clinical advisors from the American Psychological Association, the Texas Psychological Association and Dr. Sonia Krishna from the Hi, How Are You Project.New episodes will air Tuesdays and Thursdays through mid-October, and guests will include indie-pop band Mother Mother, Dayglow, rapper Toosii, singer-songwriter Charley Crockett, and more.The first two episodes of the podcast have been released on Spotify.
