Art Directors Guild Election: 4 Candidates Seek To Unseat Chuck Parker As National Executive Director

Members of the Directors Guild of Canada British Columbia have voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike against film and TV productions in the province. The vote on the union’s first-ever strike mandate was 92.2% in favor, with 86.2% of eligible voters casting ballots.

With a strike authorization vote now underway in British Columbia among members of the Directors Guild of Canada, the AMPTP and the Canadian Media Producers Association are warning that labor instability in the region could force producers to think twice about filming there.

The Directors Guild of America, which represents more than 19,000 members, has launched a review committee to improve on-set safety following the Alec Baldwin "Rust" movie shooting that left cinematographer Halyna Hutchins dead and director Joel Souza wounded in October. The new team will be led by director Karen Gaviola, who is also involved in an upcoming round of studio contract negotiations, according to the Los Angeles Times. "We have been leading advocates for mandatory safety training and for demanding increased safety precautions on sets," the guild told the paper.
