The Costume Designers Guild has fashioned the nominees for its 2024 awards.

Chuck Parker, national executive director of the Art Directors Guild, IATSE Local 800, said that “it has become frighteningly apparent” that below-the-line workers are “bearing the brunt” of the ongoing strikes by actors and writers. He is reminding his members that help is available for those struggling to maintain their union health coverage and to make ends meet.

Cathy Repola, national executive directors of the Editors Guild, IATSE Local 700, has been reappointed to the board of directors of the Motion Picture Industry Pension & Health Plans, which cover members of IATSE and several other below-the-line unions.

Alan Heim has been re-elected president of the Motion Picture Editors Guild, IATSE Local 700. Heim, who ran unopposed, has been president of the guild since January 2014. He won an Academy Award for editing All That Jazz and was Oscar-nominated for Network.

EXCLUSIVE: Chaim Kantor has been named interim National Executive Director of the International Cinematographers Guild, IATSE Local 600. He succeeds Rebecca Rhine, who stepped down in September and is now the Western Executive Director of the DGA.

United Scenic Artists, IATSE Local 829, has released its first-ever demographic survey of its more than 5,000 members nationwide. According to the local, the survey revealed a “strikingly” small “inclusion of members who identify as part of the Black Community (1.9%), Asian Community (2.7%), Latin/X Community (3.6%), Indigenous Community (0.4%), and the Middle Eastern/North African Community (0.6%).”

Baird Steptoe Sr. has been elected national president of the International Cinematographers Guild, IATSE Local 600. Steptoe, currently the guild’s 2nd national vice president, won the presidency in a four-way race against Jamie Silverstein, the guild’s national assistant secretary-treasurer, national executive board member Dianne Farrington, and camera operator Casey Shaw.

After one term, John Lindley says he will not seek reelection as president of the International Cinematographers Guild, IATSE Local 600. He made his decision public today in the guild’s newsletter. His decision not to run comes in advance of the guild’s upcoming elections. Lindley became president in March 2020, and will remain in office for another six months.

Rachael Stanley, the longtime executive director of the Costume Designers Guild, IATSE Local 892, has retired. Before she started working for the union in 2004, Stanley designed costumes on such shows as Ally McBeal, Sisters and Sabrina the Teenage Witch. She has been succeeded in the post by Brigitta Romanov, formerly the local’s assistant executive director, who designed costumes on Glee.
