ADG Awards celebrated outstanding production design in theatrical motion pictures, television, commercials, animated features and music videos. “It’s our honor and privilege to gather the guild to recognize the excellence among our members,” says award show producers Michael Allen Glover, ADG and Megan Elizabeth Bell, ADG in a joint statement. The ADG divides live-action features into three categories.
“Asteroid City,” “Killers of the Flower Moon”
“Maestro,” “Napoleon” and “Oppenheimer” were nominated in the period feature film category. “Barbie,” “The Creator,” “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” “Poor Things” and “Wonka” led the fantasy film category.
In contemporary feature, “Beau is Afraid,” “John Wick: Chapter Four,” “The Killer,” “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” and “Saltburn” were nominated. Legendary production designer Lawrence G. Paull will be inducted into the ADG Hall of Fame as part of the ceremony.

Jordan Moreau The 2024 Producers Guild Awards, one of the major precursors to the Oscars, are underway at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Ovation Hollywood Sunday night. Like most of this awards season, the major force this year is “Barbenheimer.” Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” and Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” are both up for the top PGA prize, and they’ll face off against “American Fiction,” “Anatomy of a Fall,” “The Holdovers,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Maestro,” “Past Lives,” “Poor Things” and “The Zone of Interest.” Those same 10 films are also up for best picture at next month’s Academy Awards.

In the excellence in period film category, Oscar nominee Holly Waddington won for her work on “Poor Things.” Jacqueline Durran, who is also an Oscar nominee, was recognized for her work on “Barbie,” winning the excellence in sci-fi/fantasy film award. In contemporary costume, “Saltburn’s” costume designer Sophie Canale won there.
The race for the Costume Design Academy Award is still up in the air, but no matter what happens, Holly Waddington and Jacqueline Duran will always have their 2024 Costume Designer Awards wins. The pair took Excellence in Period Film for “Poor Things” and Excellence in Sci-Fi/Fantasy Film for “Barbie,” respectively.

“Poor Things” may have taken home the BAFTA or Makeup and Hair on Sunday morning Los Angeles time, but “Maestro” showed its awards season strength later that evening at the 2024 Make-Up Artists and Hairstylists Guild Awards. The Bradley Cooper drama took both Best Period and/or Character Makeup and Best Special Makeup Effects giving it a potential nose, er, leg up on the Oscar for Best Makeup and Hairstyling which will be handed out on March 10.

Cavina, who has over twenty years of experience in programming and artistic director roles at festivals including Locarno, El-Gouna, Rome, Venice and Abu Dhabi, is structuring the Mediterrane fest’s selection in four programming strands: In Competition, featuring films from across the Mediterranean; Out of Competition, featuring films from the rest of the world; Mare Nostrum – ‘Our Sea’, showcasing narrative and documentary films dedicated to sustainability and the environment; and Future Visions – a selection of experimental VR projects.
