‘Shucked’ Broadway Review: Pure Corn-try

Chicago, Wicked, Phantom of the Opera). It’s a bit premature to group Broadway’s newest musical comedy into any of these three categories, but it’s safe to say that it is harvesting a bonafide crowd-pleaser with Shucked (★★★★★).It’s not often that the Nashville and New York crowds intertwine with one another, particularly on creative projects. This exception, however, is a winning combination.Southern-bred and out country singer-songwriters Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally have joined forces with Northeast-based stage and screenwriter Robert Horn to create one of the funniest shows Broadway has seen in quite some time.Clark, an 11-time Grammy nominee and Country Music Award winner has written songs for Brandi Carlile, Alicia Keys, and Kacey Musgraves.

'SNL' Alum Chris Kattan Engaged to Girlfriend Maria Libri After Concert Proposal

Saturday Night Live alum Chris Kattan is engaged! The funnyman, who popped the question last month during a Wilco concert in Chicago, sat down for an interview with , where he and his now-fiancée, Maria Libri, opened up about the proposal and their relationship.«Maria and I fully accept each other for who we are,» Kattan, 52, told the outlet. «It's not just the things we have in common, we also embrace our quirks and differences — and we don't love each other in spite of them, we love each other because of them.»He continued, «When I got to see her and spend time together a few months after we first met, and I realized our creative brains were also totally in sync (after the first sketch we did together), that's when I knew I was in trouble! Thankfully for me she felt the same way.»The pair met over a year and a half ago, after Libri interviewed Kattan in Springfield, Illinois, where he was on tour for a comedy show.«It's funny how life works sometimes and gives you gifts when you're not looking for them,» the journalist turned screenwriter and actor said.

Cole Bennett’s media empire Lyrical Lemonade has revealed the lineup for the 2023 edition of the Summer Smash Festival in its home state of Illinois. The headliners are pretty familiar if you follow major North American rap festivals —Kid Cudi, Future, and Playboi Carti — though one of the fest’s marquee performers is a secret for now, billed only as “a very special Chicago guest.” Best case scenario it’s Chief Keef, who hasn’t returned to the state in years.

The Accidental Importance of Jeremy Renner’s ‘Rennervations’: TV Review

Alison Herman “Considering all the injuries I have, I’m just glad I can still do what I’m good at.” This line is not spoken by Jeremy Renner, but it’s still the sentiment that hangs over “Rennervations,” the four-part docuseries streaming this Wednesday on Disney+. After a Jan. 1 snow plow accident outside his Reno, Nevada home left Renner with life-threatening injuries, the show’s Tuesday premiere will mark his first public, in-person appearance since. (Renner also sat down for an interview with ABC’s Diane Sawyer, which aired earlier this week.) “Rennervations” is designed to be a feel-good show, following the actor as he restores retired vehicles for use by youth-focused charities. But offscreen events have conspired to give its predictable triumphs — assignment, engineering, execution, delivery — an added dimension.

Quinta Brunson to Star in Hulu + Live TV Ad, Airing During Her ‘SNL’ Debut (EXCLUSIVE)

Angelique Jackson It’s Monday afternoon and Quinta Brunson, creator, writer and star of “Abbott Elementary,” is about an hour away from walking into 30 Rockefeller Plaza for her first meeting with the writers of “Saturday Night Live.” She’s been a fan of “SNL” since childhood, watching the series with her family growing up in Philadelphia. Now, on Saturday night, she’ll make her Studio 8H debut with some of those friends and family — many of whom are based on the east coast — in the audience to cheer her on.  “It’s surreal. I’m just taking it day by day — like I normally do because everything is so surreal nowadays — but this one’s really exciting,” Brunson tells Variety, calling from New York City. “‘SNL’ is the reason I even started pursuing comedy as a career, to be asked to host is just unreal. I can’t believe that I’m here and that it’s actually happening. It’s one of those ‘pinch yourself’ moments, for sure.”
