Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas urged fans to reach out to loved ones on World Mental Health Day as she reflected losing her brother David to suicide almost two decades ago. Posing a picture of herself online, Shirley explained her beloved sibling was “just gone with no signs” and that she still thinks about him “every day”. She wrote: “Today is #WorldMentalHealthDay.
A day that touches my heart so deeply having lost my brother to suicide nearly 20 years ago… “My dearest brother David just gone with no signs. I think about him every day and more importantly as it draws closer to his anniversary. “I don’t think you ever really know how someone is feeling.
Anything can be masked with a smile. “So please if you are suffering talk to someone, however difficult it may seem. Please talk to a friend, a family member, neighbour, sibling, colleague or a @calmzone councillor on 0800 58 58 58.
“There is always help out there willing to lend an ear.” She added: “And if you think someone you know is suffering, reach out, give them a call or drop them a text. “Just a simple ‘how are you?’ can change someone’s day. Hugs to each and every one of you out there reading this.
