The rock biopic craze arguably ended before it really even had a chance to start. “Straight Outta Compton,” the NWA rap biopic, surprised at the box office in 2015, but the Queen biopic, “Bohemian Rhapsody,” which was nominated for several Academy Awards, including Best Picture and won Rami Malek the Best Actor Oscar in 2019 the year after it came out really lit the fuse on the trend.

Mark Ronson has shared his thoughts on the upcoming Amy Winehouse biopic Back To Black.Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, the film stars Marisa Abela (Industry) as Winehouse and charts the iconic singer’s vibrant years living in London, as well as her intense rise to fame. It is due to be released in the UK and Ireland on April 12, 2024.The movie, which has been approved by the late artist’s estate, features many of Winehouse’s hit songs, recorded and performed by Abela.

Suki Waterhouse has shared her first single of 2024 titled ‘OMG’.The singer, model and actress – known for her role as Karen Sirko in the Emmy Nominated series Daisy Jones & The Six – has spent the past week teasing the track on her social media.Written by Waterhouse alongside Natalie Findlay and produced by Jules Apollinaire, the song is a synthy sleazy track with a funky bass line and prominent drums while Waterhouse sings: “Oh my God / Take me back the way that I was / Oh my God / You know I only tried to play your games / So you cannot forget my name / You and I, are not the same / You always had it easy” referring to a past romance.“We started half the song and then put it to the side,” Waterhouse told Rolling Stone. “We were like, ‘It’s not working.’ And then two months went by and we were back in the studio, and suddenly this chorus came out with this energy around it.”She continued: “It’s such an anxious state when I’m trying to put together a song, because you always feel like you are on the edge of something.

Ever since the back-to-back hits of “Straight Out Of Compton” (NWA) and “Bohemian Rhapsody” (Queen) and its Oscar success, rock biopics have had something of a big renaissance in recent years. While nothing has touched the heights of those two, not the Elton John film, “Rocketman,” and the upcoming “Bob Marley: One Love” doesn’t look like it’ll change the game in any major way, either way, Hollywood still keeps on trying.
