Amy Dowden has opened up about the "brutal" treatment she still has to endure for her cancer despite recently announcing that she was "disease free".
The Strictly Come Dancing star revealed last week that her latest health check showed there was "no evidence of disease" after being diagnosed with breast cancer last year. However, the professional dancer won't get the all-clear for five years, with Amy revealing on Lorraine that she will need to return to hospital for check ups and a monthly injection. Speaking to Lorraine Kelly about her health news, Amy said: "I do have to go back in once a month for an injection.
It's a brutal injection but you know what, I've got hormone-fed cancer so if that keeps the hormones at bay, then it's going to be worth while. "I get another shot at life. I'm so grateful and lucky and I wake up every day and say thank you because I know not everybody gets that opportunity," she added.
"Along the way, I've lost friends who don't get that news so I'm just going to go and grab life." Last year, Amy underwent a mastectomy for stage three breast cancer. She later told fans that she had a second diagnosis for "another type of cancer" and began chemotherapy in August. She recently told OK! that she felt "guilty" over missing filming for her BBC Wales show Dare to Dance after taking time out for her mastectomy.
“We started filming and I met all the contributors and asked them to take on this challenge. I’d given them their first few steps and then I was diagnosed,” she said. “But I was determined to keep the series going.
