All the Movies Coming Out in 2020 We Can’t Wait to See

HBO Max is launching on May 27, and in addition to the growing list of licensed titles that will be on offer to fans, WarnerMedia's new streaming service will also introduce some new original series and movies.

The executives behind HBO Max gave their first real preview of the new streaming service in late 2019, announcing its $14.99 subscription cost and the May 2020 launch. HBO Max also unveiled its slate of original programming. Some shows, like Kaley Cuoco's The Flight Attendant and the Gossip Girl sequel series, had been announced previously, but WarnerMedia made a couple of surprise announcements, including a Green Lantern TV series from Arrowverse mastermind Greg Berlanti.

Feeling nostalgic and looking for some throwbacks to binge while stuck on your couch? Disney+ is the place for you!  The streaming service just released their May 2020 lineup and it is packed with an assortment of movies and series viewers can enjoy while social distancing. The platform kicks off the month with titles like George of the Jungle to Homeward Bound on May 1st, while hits such as Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and Fantastic Mr.

Lots of us have been bingeing pandemic movies, understandably: It’s perversely comforting to see that things could be worse. But what else, I wondered, did film envision for us in 2020, specifically? I looked at five sci-fi movies set this year (and available for rent on Amazon, among other platforms) to see if things were better or worse than the real deal.

As social distancing becomes the new norm during the coronavirus pandemic, many theater chains have temporarily darkened their screens in an effort to prevent the spread of the potentially deadly virus. While most upcoming film releases are being pushed back, some studios are releasing their newest releases on streaming and on-demand services for quarantined viewing.

Amazon Prime Video announced that it will host a handful of titles that were set to screen at this year’s SXSW film festival. The SXSW 2020 Film Festival Collection will be open to all users with an Amazon login in the United States, not just those with a Prime subscription, for ten days. As of March 2020, Phase Four of Marvel's programming slate is in flux as COVID-19 has delayed the release of at least Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow, the character's long-awaited solo film, which was scheduled to hit theaters on May 1. There is no new date as of yet, and given the way Marvel carefully schedules its releases, we could be looking at a domino affect for the rest of Phase Four.

Amazon Prime Video has revealed its list of incoming movies and shows for the month of April 2020, and there are some great options, both in the streaming service's originals and its licensed content.
