Alison Hammond has clapped back at trolls after receiving unexpected criticism for her new role on For The Love of Dogs.
The beloved This Morning star has stepped into the shoes of the late Paul O'Grady, who sadly passed away last year, as the host of the heartwarming show. Taking the reins at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home in London, Alison, 49, made her debut in the six-part series that premiered on Tuesday, 16 April.
Despite stepping into a role once held by the much-adored Paul, who was a dedicated ambassador for the charity and hosted For the Love of Dogs since its inception in 2012, Alison faced some unwarranted flak. Alison's debut left fans divided, but addressing the negative comments, Alison expressed her shock to The Sun: "I was actually surprised with how much I got for doing the show.
I could understand in the sense that Paul was so loved and people were saying: 'How can she do Love Of Dogs when she doesn't have a dog? How does she love dogs when she doesn't have a dog?'" She continued, dismissing the critics with a powerful retort: "It's like saying: 'How can you love children when you haven't got kids? It's such a flawed argument for me and all I would say is: 'If you don't want to watch it, don't watch it.' That's what I would say to those trolls: 'Don't watch it then. If you don't want to help Battersea, don't watch it'." Having a laugh about the whole thing, the TV presenter said: "Trolls will be trolls and I'll still do what I do best, which is TV presenting and you'll see for yourself, I think it's authentic and I loved doing it.
Trolls are trolls, it says more about them than it does me, really.
