Ali Wong Opens Up About Her 'Unconventional' Divorce from Ex-Husband Justin Hakuta

Ali Wong is sharing some very rare comments about her divorce.
In April 2022, it was announced that the 40-year-old comedian and actress and husband Justin Hakata were divorcing after eight years of marriage.
While promoting her upcoming summer comedy tour, Ali opened up about her “unconventional” divorce, revealing that she and Justin are still “best friends.”

“We’re really, really close; we’re best friends,” Ali told The Hollywood Reporter. “We’ve been through so much together. It’s a very unconventional divorce.”
Ali went on to say that Justin is set to join her on the road for the tour along with their two daughters – Mari, 7, and Nikki, 5.
During the tour, Ali said that she will delivering new jokes about life after divorce.
“I’m still workshopping it, but the bones are there and it came to me very fast,” Ali revealed. “This is the first hour I’m doing since I started where I’m single. I think we’re going to call it the Single Lady tour.”
Also in her interview, Ali admitted she was surprised by the amount of attention her divorce news got.
“I did not expect the announcement to be so widespread, but by far the hardest part about getting divorced was my mother’s reaction,” Ali confessed. “I had told her before that I thought we might get divorced, and she was really upset. She looked me in the eye and asked, ‘Can you just wait until I die?’ She was literally asking me to not live a life for myself.”
She continued, “But she’s 82, what do I expect? She hasn’t had her period in 40 years. She’s in the sha-ha-hallows of senior citizenship. But it was still really f–king hard dealing with all her fear of the shame it would bring her.”
