Alan Shearer 'not surprised' to see Man City interest in Evan Ferguson as key strengths similar to Erling Haaland

Former Newcastle and England striker Alan Shearer insists it is 'no surprise' to see Manchester City among a number of sides monitoring Evan Ferguson.
The Blues have joined a long list of elite teams reportedly eyeing the Brighton star, who continues to impress on the south coast under Roberto De Zerbi. The 18-year-old already has four goals in as many Premier League games this season, including an excellent hat-trick against Newcastle before the international break.
Brighton held firm on interest in their striker over the summer and Ferguson has made no secret of his desire to stay and develop at the AMEX. But the league's top sides are beginning to circle and Shearer can see why City are among them.
"It’s no surprise Manchester City are reportedly among the clubs watching him," Shearer wrote in his column for the Athletic. "It would be more of a surprise if they were not.

"It wouldn’t be a shock if Ferguson was the next huge transfer out of Brighton, not that I wish it for them, but if he keeps progressing the way he is doing, it’s inevitable that something will happen not too far down the line — for the right price, of course."
Part of Ferguson's allure at Brighton is that he represents a dying breed of out-and-out No.9. The teenager is more than capable of linking play but his sole focus is on goals, to the point that De Zerbi admitted he can become 'the top scorer in Europe' this season.
That drive for goals is similar to Erling Haaland, and in praising Ferguson's main strengths, Shearer could just have easily been talking about the City frontman.
