BBC Studios Makes Pair Of European Hires

ITVX and Viaplay four-partner Litvinenko, which will see David Tennant playing the doomed Russian dissident, has sold into 80 territories ahead of its launch. AMC+ and Sundance Now have taken rights in the U.S., while Prime Video bagged Canada from distributor ITV Studios. 

Liza Foreman CANNES  —  The four-part drama “Litvinenko,” starring Scottish actor David Tennant, has sold to more than 80 international markets, ahead of its debut on the new ITV streaming service, ITVX in the U.K., and on Nent Group’s Viaplay streaming service in the Nordics, Netherlands, Poland and the Baltics. AMC Networks’ Sundance Now and AMC+ have acquired the exclusive U.S. rights to the drama, and Prime Video has taken the series in Canada.  In Europe, “Litvinenko” will air on M6 in France, ProSiebenSat.1 in Germany, and Sky Italia, amongst others.

The tenth “Apes” film — also the fourth in 20th Century’s reboot saga — will compete against Warner Bros.’ “Mad Max: Fury Road” spinoff “Furiosa” and will debut three weeks after the Marvel blockbuster “Captain America: New World Order.” Production began this past week in Sydney, Australia. Set years after the events of the 2017 film “War for the Planet of the Apes,” “Kingdom” will explore the legacy of the reboot saga’s hero Caesar, played by Andy Serkis, who gave his life to free his tribe.

Well, if you are hoping to see Kenneth Branagh return with another Agatha Christie tale, this time with a potentially supernatural twist, you’re in luck.  According to THR, Kenneth Branagh and 20th Century Studios are once again teaming up for an Agatha Christie-inspired film, the third since 2017. And just like the last two features, “A Haunting in Venice” is getting an all-star cast.
