After Grammys, H.E.R bags an Oscar for Best Original Song for 'Fight For You' with D'Mile and Tiara Thomas

Sunday's Academy Awards saw some of the top names in film collect awards on Hollywood's biggest night. Despite the ceremony looking slightly different than previous years, musicians left their own mark.

Best Original Song is one of the most coveted awards in the music industry – arguably more so than the Grammy for Song of the Year. The accolade was first introduced in 1934 at the 7th Academy Awards, and was won by “The Continental” (Con Conrad, Herb Magidson) from Best Film nominee The Gay Divorcee.

H.E.R. hopes creators continue to use their platforms responsibly. The 23-year-old performer took home the award for Best Original Song at the2021 Oscars on Sunday, and spoke about the importance of using art to «tell the truth.» «Oh my god.

Emerald Fennell accepted the best original screenplay award for Promising Young Woman at the 2021 Oscars on Sunday. "So, the only speech I ever wrote is when I was 10, and I looked to see if there would be anything useful from it, but unfortunately I only thanked Zack Morris from Saved by the Bell, who was my very supportive husband," joked Fennell at the podium in front of the socially distanced audience.

“Fight for You” is taking home Oscar’s best original song at the 93rd ceremony from the Warner Bros. movie Judas and the Black Messiah.

In an emotional speech, Fennell apologised to Oscars producer Steven Soderbergh for not having written a speech, saying the only one she had written was when she was 10 and much of it was no longer relevant.

If you tuned in at 8:00 PM EST for the Academy Awards, then odds are you missed some of the best moments of the evening. As expected, the Academy broadcast the Best Original Song performances during the pre-show, with standout performances by Celeste, H.E.R., Leslie Odom, Jr., Laura Pausini, Daniel Pemberton, Molly Sandén and Diane Warren mixed in with red carpet moments galore.

Daniel Kaluuya took home the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor at Sunday's Academy Awards for his performance in The 32-year-old British actor beat out Sacha Baron Cohen, Leslie Odom Jr., Paul Raci and his co-star, Lakeith Stanfield, for the win. Kaluuya gave a powerful performance as Black Panther party chairman Fred Hampton in the film, and on Sunday, he thanked God and his mother. «You give me everything, you give me your factory settings,» he quipped, to laughs from the audience.
