Academy Museum of Motion Pictures announced its summer programming will include a new concert film series, public events, education programs and conversations with Oscar-winning costume designer Ruth E. Carter and 14-time Oscar-nominee Diane Warren. The events begin on June 1 with a screening of Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn’s “Desk Set,” followed by a post-screening Q&A with Claire L. Evans and Elizabeth Youle. On June 8, the screening series “A New Wave of K-Cinema: Korean Women Directors” will commence, followed by the June 10 concert film series, “Summer of Music: Concert Films 1959–2020.” The concert film series will kick off with a screening of “Jazz on a Summer’s Day” and conclude on August 23, with “Metallica: Through the Never in 3D” screening.
On July 6, the museum will celebrate the departure of its landmark exhibit, “Regeneration: Black Cinema 1898–1971,” and on July 20 will showcase the work of the groundbreaking makeup artist, Dick Smith, with “The Godfather of Makeup” exhibit. Additionally, on July 23, “Silent Sundays” will begin and will include screenings of silent films each week until August 27. Throughout the summer programming series, the museum will screen “Nope,” “The Godfather,” “Safety Last!,” “Last Things,” “Working Girl,” “Lilo & Stitch,” “Desk Set,” “Waikiki Brothers,” “Fantasia” and “The Beatles: Get Back — The Rooftop Concert.” Daniel Finn has been elected to the LGMI’s Board of Directors, the Guild announced Tuesday. Naman Ramachandran Female Film Club (FCC), an online members club for female filmmakers and creatives, has partnered with French production company Sisterland Connect to advocate for women in film on an international scale. Sisterland Studio and Sisterland Connect bowed at Cannes earlier this week with the launch of an investment fund and production company for women in industry which will target a total of €35 million ($37.5 million) and have already begun the process of curating a selection of films made by women. Led by producer Sandra Rudich and supported by actor, producer and activist Julie Gayet, Sisterland aims to empower women in film and media in France and worldwide by financially supporting and co-producing over 100 female-driven projects within the next seven years.

Frameline announced the full program for the 47th annual San Francisco International LGBTQ+ Film Festival (Frameline47). Running June 14–24, with a streaming encore to follow from June 24–July 2, Frameline47 returns with nearly 90 film screenings, including 12 World, 16 North American, and 9 U.S. premieres. In celebration of the Festival’s 47th iteration, Frameline will host 47 screenings at the Castro Theatre, which equates to an average of four screenings per day throughout the 11-day event.

Charna Flam The Academy of Motion Picture Art and Sciences has launched an Academy Originals podcast, “The Art of the Documentary.” The new podcast is hosted by Oscar-nominee and “Crip Camp” documentarian Jim LeBrecht. The six-episode season will include LeBrecht sitting down with documentary filmmakers, as they reveal to the host and the audience their filmmaking processes. “The Art of the Documentary,” will chronicle “how a filmmaker approaches their subject and how they engage with it,” according to the press release. The podcast will highlight how the various documentarians work to find new filmmaking approaches, all in an effort to tell their stories in innovative ways. LeBrecht and guests will discuss how they achieve special access and how far they’ll go to get their story — even if that means taking dangerous risks.
