Abdallah Sima will be assessed by Senegal after picking up a hip injury during the African Cup of Nations.
Along with James Tavernier, Sima is Rangers' side's join-top scorer after netting ten league goals for Philippe Clement's side so far this season. Gers are keen to do a permanent deal for the Brighton loanee, but know he's likely to command a hefty transfer fee. Sima is currently on international duty in the Ivory Coast for the tournament, but his has not gone to plan despite Senegal winning their opening two games and qualifying already for the next round.
Sima was an unused sub against Gambia and didn't even make the squad for the game against Cameroon. And boss Aliou Cisse has revealed why Sima was sitting in the stand - he has picked up an injury. Cisse explained: "Abdallah Sima was unavailable because he had some discomfort in the adductor muscles of the hip. He will be assessed in the coming days."
Senegal's win means that Sima will definitely extend his stay at the competition. They need only a point against Guinea on Tuesday to win the group which would mean they face a Round of 16 clash on January 29 in Yamoussoukro.
That means he will certainly miss Rangers' match at St Mirren next week and he could miss further home games against Livingston and Aberdeen if Senegal go all the way to the final in Abidjan on February 11. And Rangers will be hoping his injury is not too serious after his important role in the first half of the season.
