Philippe Clement has told Ridvan Yilmaz he’s going nowhere until Rangers find his replacement.
The Turkish left-back has been at the centre of transfer speculation all month The Ibrox club have already knocked back Galatasaray’s attempt to lure the 22-year-old home to Istanbul after rejecting a £3.4million loan-to-buy bid. Italians Hellas Verona are also keen on the former Besiktas ace.
But Clement - who has been hit with a fresh injury set-back after confirming Kieran Dowell faces a two-month layoff - says he’ll only sanction Yilmaz’s exit once he’s found someone else to provide back-up to Borna Barisic as the Light Blues prepare for a huge second half of the season. Clement - speaking after last night’s 2-2 friendly draw with Copenhagen said: “Everybody who is here is a player of Rangers and I commit fully to get the best out of them. But for every player at Rangers if there comes an offer that cannot be refused or is a good thing for the club, then we need to discuss it. At the moment that is not the case.
“Ridvan is here and he started the game. We will see [what happens]. Players also need to show they really want to be here in the next couple of months. We need to be prepared for everything, for every position also and make sure that we have solutions.
“That is one position [left back] that we have two players. One is [nearing the] end of contract, the other one there is a lot of rumours around. So it’s clear that we need to be ready for that position. We cannot go on in three competitions with one left-back. That is correct. And in other positions it is the same.”
So far Clement has managed to land just one fresh recruit in on-loan Wolves ace Fabio Silva. But he insists he’s not growing frustrated with the clock
