A24’s ‘Civil War’ Plotting $18M-$24M Opening Boosted By Imax – Box Office Preview

Alex Garland’s political war thriller, “Civil War” opens in theaters this Friday, April 12, and now that all the reviews have arrived (read ours here), A24 is giving the film one last push, using some of the breathless raves as quotes to stir up excitement. Selena Kuznikov Nick Offerman said he never thought he would be cast in a project that wasn’t a comedy. That is, until he got the script for “Civil War” from writer and director Alex Garland. “(Alex) is so thoughtful, that he could make this movie without pandering to anything, and instead is like here’s what I think about where we’re all headed,” Offerman told Variety.

Kirsten Dunst has said that a scene from Alex Garland’s Civil War in which she appears opposite her husband Jesse Plemons is “one of the craziest things I’ve ever seen”.Dunst stars in the film as a photojournalist named Lee who attempts to capture footage of a modern civil war breaking out in the United States. At one point in the film, she is confronted and threatened by a soldier, played by Plemons.Dunst recently told Entertainment Tonight that her husband usually “wouldn’t play a part like this”.“He did a favor for us because that is a really disturbing role to play, so it’s not like he was jumping at the chance to play the role,” Dunst said of her husband.“Even reading the script, it’s one of the craziest things I’ve ever seen.

As one of A24’s most expensive films, rumored to cost around $50 million, Alex Garland’s “Civil War” is seemingly part of the indie studios’ bigger swing to make more mainstream movies. THR reports that Garland took questions about his new movie at a Film & TV panel in Austin today to explain why he chose to make “Civil War,” if he’s trying to say anything explicit about American politics, and whether A24‘s release of this film before the 2024 US presidential election is deliberate bad timing or coincidental.
