Manchester United have been slammed by the manager of Crawley Town after news emerged that D'Mani Mellor's proposed loan move to the club was on the verge of collapsing.
The Manchester Evening News reported on Monday morning that academy striker Mellor was set to join the League Two side for the remainder of the season.
Mellor, 21, joined Salford City on loan last August but saw his time at the Peninsula Stadium hampered by injury early on.
He only made three appearances for the League Two side, including one on the day he signed, with his final outing for the club coming earlier this month.
After his Salford spell was terminated, Crawley were identified as favourites for his signature until the end of the season, but it looks like a move is now off.
Speaking on deadline day, manager John Yems provided an update on the loan pursuit and slammed United for their role in it.
"Yeah stay up tonight - there’s a good film on Film4," he joked when quizzed on Crawley's deadline day plans. "We are trying a few but we had some disappointing news concerning the Manchester United player, there was a right balls-up with the paperwork from their end and I don’t think that will go through, we are trying to rectify it. Clare [James, club secretary] has been working all night to try and get some in.
"It’s one of those things, we have been coming over adversity all season so it doesn't concern me that much but it’s annoying.
"You do things because you think things are going to happen, then all of a sudden they have a great way of kicking you right up the jacksie.
"Very, very, very disappointing, and it was nothing to do with us. He came down, he’s been training with us, he’s a real nice kid."
