Jonnie Irwin has said he feels "really privileged" to reach his 50th birthday following his heartbreaking terminal cancer diagnosis. The A Place in the Sun presenter, who turned 50 on 18 November, celebrated his milestone birthday with his wife Jessica, 41, and their three children - Rex, five, and three year old twins Cormac and Rafa.
The family-of-five spent Jonny's birthday on Spain's Costa del Sol, where they've been holidaying at the Wyndham Grand resort in Mijas. "I never thought I'd be here for this, so I'm chuffed to bits," Jonnie proudly told Hello! as he chatted from his family getaway.
The dad-of-three added: "I feel really privileged to be able to celebrate my birthday looking at blue skies and with sand between my toes. I had an early birthday party at the start of the year because I didn't think I'd make it. It was like being at my own wake; lots of fun, lots of dancing.
But here I am. I view it as a complete triumph." Jonnie has been enjoying swimming on holiday and playing football with his sons, as well as family meals out in the sunshine. The 50 year old said: "I have been spending all day with the kids; playing in the pool and in the hot tub, playing football.
When I went to bed last night I said, 'I feel like a real dad today'.
This morning I couldn't get out of bed, but I'm not sorry and I'll do it again. I'll rest when I absolutely need to but I'll have fun until I drop." He went on to say that he feels "strong" and "good" despite tiring easily, and finds it "bizarre" that he's running around "like a normal person" even though he has terminal cancer. Shortly before his 50th birthday Jonnie found himself back in hospital with jaundice and doctors discovered the tumour on his liver had grown.
