Strictly Come Dancing's Amy Dowden has opened up about her battle with cancer, admitting she feels "angry" and doesn't want "looks of sympathy". The 33 year old professional dancer, who also lives with Crohn's Disease, was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year and had to undergo a mastectomy and chemotherapy. Amy shared her journey with fans on social media, saying: "I never asked [for] this to happen to me.
I've always worked so hard. I've always been a good person." She also told Women's Health UK: "I looked after myself, I've exercised well, haven't smoked...I do get angry. I just think I've been dealt a difficult one...I think it'll take a while to accept.
"It took me a long time to accept my Crohn's. Until I'm back dancing and back to my normal self, I don't think I will accept it." Amy expressed her gratitude to her Strictly co-stars for their support, revealing that Dianne Buswell checks in with her every day and also shared that watching this year's show has been "a great help". She said: "Production have gone above and beyond to make me part of the series as well.
To have no part in it would have been soul-destroying.
And not good for me mentally, whatsoever. I don't know what I would have done, I'll be honest with you." But one thing Amy also made clear is that she doesn't want people to feel sorry for her. "I just want to be treated as normal," she confessed.
