From dating shows and escapist entertainment to gripping dramas and glossy, American lives far removed from your own, there’s enough to keep us entertained alllllll summer long. Feeling overwhelmed about choosing what to actually watch? Don’t worry, we’ve got you. Without further ado, here are the shows we’re binge-watching this summer.
For when you’re home alone and looking to hang with some onscreen girlfriends… The Sex Lives of College GirlsThis campus life comedy is created by Mindy Kaling (of The Mindy Project and the US version of The Office) and Brooklyn Nine-Nine writer Justin Noble and it’s a lot less webcam vibes than the title suggests. Okay so yes, the gals are having sex in various forms and exploring their sexuality but there’s a real sense of vulnerability, honesty and compassion at the heart of the series. Thrown together in their dorm at the prestigious Essex College, Vermont, the four main characters have nothing in common yet must make their way through the unknown territory of life on campus together.
It’s genuinely funny, the characters are universally relatable in their desire to belong (FYI, down-to-earth Kimberly is played by Timothée Chalamet’s real-life sister) and the show skilfully tackles themes of class, race and sexuality. At just 30 minutes per episode, I’m not ashamed to say I binged the series in one sitting. The Real Housewives of CheshireThe latest season sees ex-Boyzone star Shane Lynch and his wife Sheena join the cast and brings a healthy dose of bitchiness, new babies, old feuds, boobs and book

Jem Aswad Senior Music EditorJohn Lydon — a.k.a. Johnny Rotten, lead singer of the Sex Pistols and Public Image Ltd. — has written a brief and to-the-point editorial for the U.K.’s Times that ranges from his thoughts on the royal family to his wife’s struggle with Alzheimers, from Danny Boyle’s new biopic “Pistol” (which he fought legally) and his early struggles with fame. While the London-born Lydon, who has lived in Los Angeles for decades, courted controversy in recent years with statements in support of former President Trump, the editorial finds him as direct and unsentimental as ever.Yet the most striking statements are him effectively contradicting the world-shattering statements he made in the Sex Pistols’ first two singles, which laid the template for much of punk rock’s ethos: In it, he says “anarchy is a terrible idea” (defying the group’s first single, “Anarchy in the U.K.”) and “God bless the Queen,” which reverts the withering sarcasm of the group’s second single, “God Save the Queen” (“and the fascist regime”) as Britain observes Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee.

Brian Steinberg Senior TV EditorTV used to be about shows. Now, based on many of the industry’s glitzy upfront presentations that took place this week, it’s all about algorithms. At show after show, NBCUniversal, Disney, Fox, Paramount, Univision and The CW spent time hawking new scripted comedies and dramas; unscripted series; lots of sports; and even movies. But in many cases, the availability of the categories seemed more important than the programing that filled them.
