370K Pennsylvania mail-in ballot applications rejected: Report

Allegheny County, Pa., officials on Wednesday clarified that officials were not "taking today off" counting mail-in ballots as voters await election results from the battleground state. New York Times journalist Trip Gabriel on Wednesday tweeted that the county "elections staff is taking today off for 'administrative work' and will not resume count until Friday," citing a quote from Allegheny County councilmember Bethany Hallam and an email from the county.

President Trump's lead over Joe Biden in Pennsylvania was shrinking Thursday, as state election workers continued to count mail-in ballots. As of Thursday afternoon, Trump was leading by more than 102,000 votes, with 50.2% of the vote so far, compared to Biden’s 48.6%.That lead was down from more than 164,000 votes earlier in the day Thursday, 326,000 on Wednesday afternoon and more than 600,000 early Wednesday.

Pennsylvania health officials reported grim news on Thursday as the state saw its highest daily jump in coronavirus cases to date. The 2,900 new cases bring the state total to 220,566, officials announced.There were 47 more deaths for a total of 8,937 lives lost in the state to COVID-19.The news comes as the U.S.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are doing their part to help while Pennsylvania continues to count mail-in ballots as the race to 270 inches forward.  While not present, several Steelers players provided dinner to election staffers at the Allegheny County warehouse Wednesday night as they processed thousands of mail-in and absentee ballots, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.  It was not known which players participated, but linebacker Vince Williams acknowledged the kind gesture in a tweet. 

White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany predicted Wednesday that President Trump will defeat Joe Biden by roughly 40,000 votes in Pennsylvania as the campaign launched a legal battle challenging the handling of ballots in the hotly contested state.

Police in the battleground state of Pennsylvania were investigating an Election Day arson at a polling place involving a young woman they say tried to set small fires as she waited on line to vote. The Pequea Township Police Department opened the investigation in response to an incident Tuesday afternoon at the West Willow Fire Company polling location in Lancaster County.

Pennsylvania Gov.Tom Wolf, a Democrat, tweeted early Wednesday that a “partisan attack" had been launched on Pennsylvania’s elections. Wolf's tweet came after Trump tweeted that the election is being stolen from him.

President Trump has been criticizing states that have extended deadlines for accepting ballots beyond Election Day, saying that the country should have a result by Tuesday night. Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro, however, says that his state will make sure that every ballot is counted, regardless of what the president says.

President Trump is holding his second of five rallies in the final day before Election Day in Scranton, Pa., the birthplace of his Democratic opponent. He told the crowd: "We win Pennsylvania, we win it all, just like last time."  During the first few minutes he spoke, the fired-up crowd broke out into chants of "We love Trump."  "This does not look like a second-place finish, I saw sleepy Joe, he had about 12 people.
