Looking to find its way and pull boys in, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is getting a mid-week start here with previews yesterday grossing $3.85M. Showtimes started at 2PM for the Jeff Rowe-directed feature and the outlook is $30M over 5-days for the net $70M production. Some trackers have it at $40M. Mutant Mayheim is booked at 3,513 locations today and will expand to 3,851 theaters by Friday.

Now after another seven years, Paramount reboots “TMNT” by going back to animation with “Teenage Mutant Ninja Nurtles: Mutant Mayhem,” in theaters next month.

Brian Robbins, the CEO of Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon, on the idea of adding some adolescent anarchy into their animated reboot of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.” But there was a problem with the initial designs for the film’s four reptile heroes: Instead of looking like muscular teens, these Turtles were scrawny and malnourished, barely strong enough to wield nunchucks or hurl a throwing star. “They looked like they were on Ozempic,” Robbins jokes. In his peripatetic career, the 59-year-old Robbins has been on every end of these kind of creative discussions, working as an actor, writer, director, producer, digital entrepreneur and now, studio chief.

Angelique Jackson Cowabunga! The original 1987 animated series “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” is coming to Nickelodeon. Ahead of the theatrical release of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem,” Nickelodeon has acquired global rights to the storied Fred Wolf series, which follows the adventures of the heroes in a half-shell — Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo. Under the deal, all 193 episodes of the original “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” — which ran from 1987 to 1996 — are set to debut digitally on Nickelodeon-owned and operated channels (such as YouTube, Pluto TV and O&O linear channels) later this month in the U.S., followed by Nickelodeon-branded channels and digital platforms internationally.

The sole motion picture studio to brave an actor-less Comic-Con this year was Paramount which opted to show off fresh footage from its upcoming Aug. 2 Point Grey produced Nickelodeon animated feature, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem before fanboys and fangirls in a very packed Hall H. The Melrose lot is one of the dominant streamers as well, splashing outdoor wraparound building ads in the Gaslamp quarter.
