And Zara Tindall, the Queen's eldest granddaughter, was no exception, opting for a simple pair of drop pearl earrings. The professional equestrian arrived at Westminster Abbey alongside her husband Mike Tindall and her cousins, Princess Beatrice and Eugenie to pay tribute to their beloved Granny.
Her monochrome look, which also featured a pillbox hat, bag and gloves, was accessorised with the simple jewellery which the Queen was rarely seen without during her seventy year reign. Zara and the late Queen reportedly shared a particularly close bond because of their shared love of horses. So the occasion of her funeral was no doubt overwhelming and Zara looked sombre as she arrived at Westminster Abbey.
Ahead of the service, she had joined with other members of the Royal family in following the Queen's coffin from Westminster Hall to Westminster Abbey. As they filed into the Abbey, Zara, 41, and Mike, 43, comforted one another by holding hands as they walked towards their seats. As well as being one of her Majesty's favourite jewellery looks, pearls are also thought of as "mourning jewellery" in a traditional that dates back to Queen Victoria's era.
