Yeah Yeah Yeahs team up with Perfume Genius on “Spitting Off the Edge of the World”

Owen Gleiberman Chief Film CriticThe enthralling documentary “Turn Every Page: The Adventures of Robert Caro and Robert Gottlieb” opens with white-on-black credits accompanied by the staccato pecks of a typewriter, which will be music to some viewers’ ears. Robert Caro, the author at the center of the documentary, writes towering books of nonfiction — “The Power Broker,” his 1,280-page study of how Robert Moses literally shaped the city of New York, and “The Years of Lyndon Johnson,” his four-volume biography that’s currently awaiting its fifth and final volume — but taps out these imperially detailed and captivating tomes on an old electric typewriter, X-ing out passages as he goes along, backing up each page with an extra sheet and a piece of carbon paper.

Suzan-Lori Parks’ Topdog/Underdog, winner of the 2002 Pulitzer Prize, will return to Broadway this fall in a 20th anniversary production directed by Kenny Leon and starring In The Heights‘ Corey Hawkins and Watchmen‘s Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

Jennifer Lopez has called her co-headline Super Bowl show with Shakira the “worst idea in the world” in her new documentary Halftime.The forthcoming Netflix documentary made its premiere at New York’s Tribeca Film Festival last Wednesday (June 8), centred around Lopez’s performance preparation for the 2020 Super Bowl halftime show. “Jurassic World Dominion” is upon us.Billed as the last installment in the “Jurassic” “era” (because surely there will be more films), this latest entry in the franchise that began with Steven Spielberg’s masterpiece “Jurassic Park” back in 1993, is bigger and more dinosaur-stuffed than ever. “Jurassic World: Dominion” unites the two halves of the saga, as well – with newer characters like Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) partnering up with legacy characters Alan Grant (Sam Neill), Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) and Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum).

Death certainly becomes Hulu thanks to Only Murders in the Building, a 10-episode comic mystery starring Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez as three inhabitants of a New York City apartment complex who team up to investigate the death of a neighbor. Co-created by Martin and Jonathan Hoffman, the star-filled drama returns June 28 on the streamer, and now Gomez’s acerbic Mabel has become a murder suspect. Here, Gomez joins Martin (who plays Charles, an outmoded TV actor) and Short (his Oliver is a bankrupt Broadway producer) to riff about the dramedy’s successful first season, those intimate moments on screen, and what it’s like to work with each other. (Hint: it’s a constant knee slapper.)

Yeah Yeah Yeahs played new songs to fans at LA’s Teragram Ballroom last night (May 30) – watch them perform ‘Spitting Off The Edge Of The World’ and see the setlist below.The New York band aired classics including ‘Maps’ and ‘Heads Will Roll’ but also treated fans to two new songs including ‘Spitting…’, which was announced last week (featuring Perfume Genius) and is released tomorrow (June 1). A song called ‘Black Top’ was also played, according to notes on setlist.fm.It’s not known if the new tracks will feature on a forthcoming album. Yeah Yeah Yeahs have been on a lengthy hiatus; their last album, ‘Mosquito‘, was released in 2013.The Karen O-fronted band revealed recently that they’d signed a new record deal with Secretly Canadian.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs have announced that they’ll be doing a special one-off warm up gig next week in Los Angeles.It comes after the Karen O-fronted trio announced earlier this week that they were making a comeback with their first new single in nine years, ‘Spitting Off The Edge Of The World’.In addition to the new track, which you can hear a snippet of here, Yeah Yeah Yeahs announced a pair of headline shows in New York and Los Angeles set to take place in October.After teasing the gigs over the weekend, the band have now confirmed they’ll take to the stage at NYC’s Forest Hills Stadium on October 1 before visiting the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, California on October 6.But before then, the band will perform a special warm up gig at Teragram Ballroom in Los Angeles on Monday (May 30).Taking to social media today (May 27) to announce the gig, the band wrote: “Warm us UP LA and be the FIRST to hear the new tunes. The show before the shows: @teragramla May 30th.”Tickets are on sale now here.
