I first met Betty Wright, who passed away from cancer yesterday [May 10], three decades ago when she spoke on a panel at New York’s New Music Seminar. She shared the tale of her 1988 R&B hit “No Pain, No Gain.” Here’s what I remember her saying:“I sent my record ‘No Pain, No Gain’ to 20 record companies and they all turned me down.
So, I started my own label, Ms. B Records, and put it out myself.

Ben Stiller appeared on Tuesday's at-home edition of The Tonight Show and told some of his favorite stories about his late father, Jerry Stiller. For instance, the 54-year-old actor recalled the time his dad helped him chase down a kid who stole his bike.

Ben Stiller and his sister Amy were by their father’s side during his final moments, the Zoolander actor, 54, revealed in a new interview. And, despite having slowed down a bit, Ben told The New Yorker that Jerry Stiller was his funny self “until the end.” Jerry died of natural causes at the age of 92 on May 11, his son confirmed on Twitter.

Betty Wright, a Grammy-winning soul singer and songwriter known for influential hits such as "Clean Up Woman" and "Where is the Love," died at age 66 at her home in Miami on Sunday. Steve Greenberg of S-Curve Records told the New York Times Wright had been diagnosed with cancer in the fall.
