Post Malone has disputed claims made by a songwriter who is suing him over his 2019 hit ‘Circles’.Tyler Armes filed a federal lawsuit in California in April 2020, listing Post (real name Austin Post), Post’s producer Frank Dukes and Universal Music Group as defendants, and claims he is seeking co-writer and co-producer credits, as well as prospective and retroactive royalties and other money owed from the ‘Hollywood’s Bleeding’ track.On the same day, Post filed his own suit, with the rapper asking a New York Federal Judge to rule that Armes has no claim to the song’s copyright and did not participate in writing it.“It is an age-old story in the music business that when a song earns the type of runaway success that ‘Circles’ has garnered, and individuals will come out of the woodwork falsely claim to take credit for the song, and demand unwarranted and unearned windfall profits from the song,” reads Malone’s complaint.In a new court filing (via Rolling Stone), Post claims that Armes did not contribute anything “original” to the song, just “an admittedly extremely commonplace guitar chord progression,” and potentially a “fragment of a guitar melody that Armes claims he sung to Post”. Armes claims he was initially offered five per cent of the song’s royalties for his work on ‘Circles’, but that was removed when he tried to negotiate a bigger cut.Post’s new court documents read: “Armes admitted that his contributions did not even rise to the level of originality, which is also required in addition to the fixation requirement.

On Tuesday, California native Bethany K. Farber filed a lawsuit against The LAPD, the city of Los Angeles, Los Angeles Airport Police and 100 unnamed individuals over a case of mistaken identity that led to her arrest in April of 2021. The horrific mix-up led to the young woman spending 13 days in jail (!!!) before her name was finally cleared.

Frustratingly, it was her name that caused the confusion in the first place: according to the Los Angeles Times, Bethany was arrested on a warrant out of Texas for a fugitive who shared her name. According to her lawsuit, the plaintiff “and this other woman had nothing in common besides their name,” as the Bethany in question “is a young woman with long, blonde hair, while the other woman is older with short brown hair.”
Of course, Bethany tried to communicate this to the TSA agents who apprehended her while she was waiting for a flight to Mexico at LAX. She told them she had no criminal record and had never even been to Texas. Yet somehow, between the TSA, airport police, and later the LAPD, no one ever asked to see “her driver’s license, date of birth, Social Security number or other identifying information,” per the Times. Her lawsuit stated that authorities “failed to do the bare minimum” to confirm her identity.
Because of the negligence, Bethany went from being held “in a room without food or water for more than two hours” at the airport to being booked at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood. She spent more than two weeks in lockup, and “suffered severe stress, anxiety, emotional injury and mental anguish due to her arrest and incarceration,”

LOS ANGELES -- The family of a cinematographer shot and killed on the set of the film “Rust” sued Alec Baldwin and the movie's producers Tuesday for wrongful death.Lawyers for the family of Halyna Hutchins announced the lawsuit filed in New Mexico in the name of Hutchins' husband, Matthew Hutchins, and their son, Andros, at a Los Angeles news conference.At least four other lawsuits have been filed over the shooting, but this is the first directly tied to one of the two people shot.The “reckless conduct and cost-cutting measures” of Baldwin and the film's producers “led to the death of Halyna Hutchins,” attorney Brian Panish said.A video created by the attorneys showed an animated recreation of the shooting.Baldwin, who was also a producer on the film, was pointing a gun at Hutchins during the setup for the filming of a scene for the western in New Mexico on Oct. 21 when it went off, killing Hutchins and wounding the director, Joel Souza.Baldwin has said he was pointing the gun at Hutchins at her instruction and it went off without him pulling the trigger.The attorneys said in the video that Baldwin had turned down training for the kind of gun draw he was doing when he shot Hutchins.It said industry standards call for using a rubber or similar prop gun during the setup that was happening, and there was no call for a real gun.Emails sent seeking comment from an attorney for Baldwin and a representative of the film's other producers were not immediately returned.Last month, nearly three months after the shooting, Baldwin turned over his cellphone to authorities in his home state of New York.
