A nursery worker accused of killing a baby girl having allegedly swaddled her and put her face down on a bean bag told a court she complained to management about the 'sheer volume' of children compared to staff.
Kate Roughley, 37, denies the manslaughter of nine-month-old Genevieve Meehan, after she was found unresponsive at Tiny Toes Nursery in Cheadle Hulme, Stockport.
Prosecutors allege deputy manager Ms Roughley swaddled the infant in a blanket and put her to sleep on her front onto the bean bag on May 9 2022, Manchester Crown Court previously heard. She is then alleged to have fastened a strap across Genevieve's back before she later placed another cover over her.

Despite the best efforts of staff and paramedics following the discovery of Genevieve, they were unable to revive her. Genevieve was pronounced dead at Stepping Hill Hospital later the same afternoon, the court heard.
Ms Roughley previously told jurors she hadn’t worked in the ‘baby room’ until after the first Covid lockdown. She said that when she first started working at the nursery when she was 18, the staff to child ratio was ‘less than what it ended up’.
She added that it was 'quite hard' to check on the babies every 10 minutes due to the 'sheer volume of children' there. The court previously heard from another member of staff that she thought the ratio was one staff member to two babies. Ms Roughley said she thought it was one to three.
“Who would control how many children came into the Baby Room?,” her barrister Sarah Elliott KC asked. “It would be the management,” Ms Roughley said.
