An animal-loving gran was mauled to death by a dog she took in as a stray.
Anne Shields took in a pit bull named Choccy to live at her holiday home but suffered "catastrophic" injuries to her head and arm when the animal turned on her. She died the next day in hospital.
Her daughter Sarah, from Preston, said the 67-year-old couldn’t bear to cast Choccy back onto the street and that what happened to her is a "nightmare", reports LancsLive. Neighbours heard Anne’s screams at her home in Macastre, near Valencia, and raised the alarm.

Police who rushed to the address shot the dog so medics could reach Anne. Sarah told the Sun how Anne wound up taking the dog on for good as all the animal shelters were full up.
It hadn’t been her intention to keep the dog. She said: "She was looking after him until she found someone who could take him. She stuck with him and then this happened. It’s a nightmare."
Her daughter added a meeting had been set up with someone to take the dog on the day she lost her life. Mum-of-one Anne, a former security guard, brought Choccy home to live with her and husband Martyn. Martyn died 18 months later aged 59.
Sarah added: "She was so caring. This hasn’t really sunk in. We’ll miss her so much."
