Kate Middleton was once "left in tears" after Prince William "disappointed" her by cancelling their "big plans" at the last minute.
Despite now being married for over 12 years, the Prince and Princess of Wales' early days of their romance was not always so plain sailing.
The couple famously met at St Andrews University in Scotland where they were both studying history of art and their relationship blossomed from there.
The couple briefly split back in 2007, several years after their graduation and one report claims that William once left his future wife in tears after he cancelled an important plan without notice.
Royal author Katie Nicholl, wrote in her book, The Making of a Royal Romance, said that Kate and William had spent Christmas apart back in 2006, OK! reports.
They had already been dating for five years at this point but only married couples were invited along to the late Queen's Sandringham celebrations at Christmas time.
While William spent the festive period with the royals, Kate stayed at home with her own family.
To make up for not spending Christmas with Kate, William had reportedly made "big plans" for New Year but he changed his mind at the last minute and cancelled the plans, leaving Kate distraught.
He reportedly told the Princess of Wales on Boxing day that he would be staying with his own family instead despite having promised that he would spend time with the Middletons.
Despite dating Kate for years throughout university, it was said that William was wary of making her his girlfriend at first and took a while to pop the question due to his Royal-status and his own parents' difficult marriage.
